OUR UNIQUE 4-STEP PROCESS FOR CHOOSING COLORS & MATERIALS THAT PAIR PERFECTLY

Color plays a crucial role in a home, setting the mood and atmosphere of each space. Choosing paint colors and finishes simultaneously is essential to ensure they harmonize and create a cohesive interior design. Failing to select them together can result in mismatched or clashing elements, compromising the overall aesthetic and visual flow of the home.

Step #1: Settle on a Specific Mood for the Space

To determine the mood of your space, consider the overall feel you want to create in your home. Do you desire a soft, light, and cozy atmosphere for relaxation, a dark and moody ambiance for comfort, or perhaps a clean, polished, and luxurious look for a more refined feel? Your desired emotions and ambiance will guide your color and material choices to create a space that resonates with you.

Step #2: Find a Variety of Images for Visual Inspiration

Finding inspiration for your home can start by using platforms like Pinterest or flipping through magazines to collect images of spaces that evoke the feelings you desire. To pinpoint the exact elements you love in each picture, pay attention to specific colors, textures, furniture, lighting, or architectural details that draw your attention. Creating a mood board or list of these elements will help you articulate your design preferences and guide your decorating decisions effectively.

Step #3: Determine Each Detail of the Design Up-Front

Planning up-front is crucial for a successful interior design project. It is important to assemble material samples like flooring, fabric swatches, and paint color chips that align with your desired aesthetic. You can do this by visiting home improvement stores or ordering samples online. But if that sounds overwhelming to you, don’t worry! That’s what I’m here for. I can provide advice on color palettes, material choices, and design principles to assist in both coordinating and selecting materials based on your preferences and desired aesthetic. I want to help you simplify the process and ultimately Design Your Dream!

Step #4: Edit, Assess, Repeat, Finalize...Then Implement

To edit and finalize selections, it’s important to be open to making adjustments as needed, such as swapping out hardware, reevaluating paint swatches, or refining furniture choices until the design aligns with your vision and feels right. As a designer, my team and I will present an initial design concept to the client, gather feedback, and collaborate together to ensure the final design plan meets their expectations and preferences before proceeding with implementation.

When selecting paint colors and design materials, it’s crucial to consider how they interact with each other to create the desired look and feel. Keep in mind the principles of balance, contrast, and harmony to achieve a cohesive design that reflects your unique style and preferences.
